Vision Statement

The Department is dedicated to producing highly skilled and globally competitive graduates, who have excellent grasps of the fundamentals of electrical and electronics engineering thereby enabling a distinction of practice of the field.

Mission Statement

  • Structure the curriculum to enhance critical thinking and creativity in students;
  • Train Electrical and Electronics Engineers capable of easily passing on their expertise to their successors in the field;
  • Facilitate acquisition of practical work experience in the Faculty/Department’s  workshops, by making adequate provision for extensive and appropriate laboratory experiment;
  • Provide adequate training in modern design, implementation and maintenance techniques of engineering systems;
  • Adequately prepare the student fully to either pursue advanced studies in Electrical Power & Machines, Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer and Control Engineering, or other related engineering and management disciplines or for employment in the public and private sectors of the economy;
  • Provide adequate training relating to the moral, ethical, legal, and professional commitments required to function as a professional enterprise while safeguarding human health and welfare and the environment in a global society
  • Develop entrepreneurial knowledge and abilities in students, as well as proper training in organizational and human systems, with a spirit of independence so that they may launch their own firms.

Opportunities

Graduates of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of University of Ilorin, by training, could comfortably fit into various work areas. Some of these areas are listed below, albeit not exhaustive.

(a) Design Engineering

Design of:

  • Consumer Electronics
  • Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution systems
  • Communications systems such as transmitters, receivers, transceivers

(b) Manufacturing Engineering

  • Plant Engineering: servicing and offering support in industrial environment
  • Power Engineering: safe, reliable and sustainable power delivery
  • Information Systems: support to manufacturing processes

(c) Analysis and Testing Engineering

  • Technical Service Engineering: troubleshooting, maintenance and repair
  • Product Testing for quality, safety, performance of equipment

(d) Research and Development (R & D)

  • Product Development
  • Research to discover/develop new materials and technologies
  • Training

(e) Quality Control Engineering

  • Overseeing the production of various types of complex systems and equipment.

(f) Project Engineering

  • Planning, implementing, resource forecasting and other technical activities of the project.

(g) System Design Engineering

  • To carry out research, study and develop new ideas for new products and the system to manufacture them
